Writer Wednesday: NaNo, Day 1!

This Writer Wednesday is a super-special one! Today is the start of NaNoWriMo! Ahhh! If you got too caught up in binging Stranger Things 2 or watching the World Series, don’t worry. I have a four part NaNo prep series that can help you out. Here are the links to: Part 1Part 2Part 3, and Part 4.

If you’ve already got your prep work done: congratulations! Today is the day you start! I hope you’re filled with excitement! Make sure to cherish it, because the number one hardest part of NaNo is pushing through to the end.

This doesn’t just apply to NaNo novels. Pushing through the “boring” parts of your story can be a real drag. There are volumes of articles by professional authors dedicated to this very subject, so I don’t want to rehash anything that’s already been said (though, some of that is inevitable).

The most important tool you have as a writer is your love of writing. Stylistic techniques and preparation routines aside, your passion is tops.

If you’ve read any of my stuff before, you know how I feel about writing. (Spoiler: I fucking love it.) And even though it’s my favoritest non-girlfriend thing, it still gets me upset sometimes. I wonder if I’m good enough or interesting enough. I worry about my grammar and narrative structure. (Actually, thinking about it now, I act like I hate writing way more than I act like I love it…)

But y’know what? I know I love it, and I know that love shines through. That’s all that matters.

Try not to second-guess yourself, okay? You’re awesome, your ideas are awesome, and you tell stories awesomely. They will never turn out the way you planned, but they’ll always shine with love. Trust yourself and trust in your passion. You can do this.

I’ll be sitting down to hammer out the first pages of Reclamation tonight and—I assure you—I will groan at them when I read them next (at the end of NaNo). But I’ll worry about that when I get there. For now, I’m going to grin ear to ear and clack away on those keys.

If you’re a wordcount person, you’ll need to write 1,666 words per day to meet the 50k goal. Try not to stress about that number. It’ll flex and bend every day, and you will have productive days. (Which is awesome, because other days you’ll get nothing done. Life happens. It’s okay.)

Do yourself a favor: don’t delete anything. Keep going. Keep going, keep going, keep going.

If you wanna vent or you need suggestions, tips, advice, or help: message me! I’m here for you (and with you!).

I love you all! Let’s kick ass this year!

Ronin will be participating in NaNo this year, too! His NaNo novel Reclamation is about a mechanic girl fighting giant robots. It’s pretty cool! If you need to vent or want some suggestions, feel free to email Ronin directly at roninwritingofficial@gmail.com. Or, message him on: InstagramFacebookTumblrTwitter, or WordPress!

Like, comment, and share to support this blog and fellow NaNo participants everywhere!
